WHAT IS CASHMERE?

WHAT IS CASHMERE?

Cashmere is a special yarn that is made from the down hair fibers of cashmere goats. These unusual animals live in the severe climate of Mongolia and the Inner Mongolia in China. A large seasonal temperature fluctuation is the main characteristic of those regions.

Cashmere goats have adapted to the harsh climate due to the special coat structure: there is an outer layer protecting the down hair from water and the haircoat of micro-thin fiber with strong insulating properties. So they provide warmth in winter. When spring comes, goats don’t need down hair anymore and they start casting the coat. So the down hair can be pulled out or combed manually.

After a complex and laborious gathering process, the fibers are dyed and turned into yarn. It is widely used for premium class jumpers, dresses, suits, and accessories production.

Cashmere features:

  • It is softer than silk several times.
  • It is endurable, wearproof, and doesn’t pill.
  • It retains warmth although the yarn is quite thin.
  • It is eightfold warmer than wool.
  • It is hypoallergic and comfortable.

Cashmere is a rather sensitive fabric that requires special care:

  • It should be hand washed in slightly warm or cold water with special washing liquids for cashmere or without them at all.
  • It shouldn’t be dried uprightly or on the radiator.
  • Cashmere should be ironed through a fabric pad with a slightly heated iron.
  • Items should be put down on shelves in paper bags or wrappers to protect them from extra moisture. No clothes hangers.

A high-quality cashmere is not only the thinnest, softest and warmest yarn but a durable item that with proper care will keep you happy for years.
